During the Universal Exhibition in 1889 in Paris people were very much impressed with all that was displayed in the Chinese pavilion. This triggered the start of the chinoiserie period in Europe in general and in Paris in particular. We feel this amazing pendant could be the result of that movement.
Unfortunately we don’t know the designer and maker of this amazing and entirely silvered, bronze chandelier, but the stunning Chinese male figures and the beautifully flowing details, all-over, tell us that this is the work of a master designer/maker. This exceptional chandelier could be from anywhere from one of the top Parisian makers, to the Aesthetic Movement designers to the Wiener Werkstatte. We are certain that the mystical Chinese figures have a hidden meaning to them, but unfortunately we do not have the knowledge.
If you are looking for rare and great quality art and antiques at affordable prices, we have plenty of both. This pendant comes with the original canopy (see image 10) and a matching chain. It will also be rewired for save and immediate usage wherever you are.
Height without the chain / canopy x diameter: 27 x 25.5 inches.
We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
