This 19th Century Grandfather Clock is decorated with hand-painted, gold leaf chinoiserie. The black lacquer case with gilded and painted Scottish landscapes; where the sheep are grazing, men are fishing and walking along a rocky road. Scenes of castles in the distance, and native birds flying; the breeze flies by as the clock strikes. There is flat and raised chinoiserie giving it more depth to look within the story it is telling. This elegant, antique long case clock was created in France where they crafted a classic case of slender proportions. The face of the clock is a white enameled dial with Roman numerals, Arabic numerals for the dates 1 to 31, and topped with golden hands of the sun, star and moon to show us the time. Above the dial you see two figures turned to gold, gazing at each other as if they have all the time in the world; all contained within an arched hood above a shaped trunk door.
