A fine early Chinese lacquer tilt top table decorated with stunning painted and gilded vignettes. There are all manner of elegantly executed sacred objects and musical instruments arrayed in the border around the top, in Chinese red with gilt details. The center likewise has fantastical vignettes of mythological figures seeming to fly on the backs of birds or repose in lush paradisiacal groves of bamboo and exquisite plant forms. The table rests on a turned baluster with a tripod base supported by carved ball and claw feet. The base is also decorated lightly with coordinating gilded and Chinese red motifs. Good antique condition with craquelure, surface wear and rubbing/losses to some of the details on the top, more so on the table base. The wear is organic and soft, a rather attractive patina. Some restoration at the rim, top is French polished.
