With intricate construction and exquisite decoration, this late-19th century table mirror is a true masterpiece of Chinoiserie-style craftsmanship and lacquerware. Decorated in gilt, the black lacquered wooden frame was shaped, embossed and chiseled with lush foliage and dense scrollwork. The mirror stands on three legs with metal fittings at the back, likely to be secured to its original table structure. The back of the mirror also features a delicate all-over pattern of bamboo leaf-like etchings that create a sense of movement on the surface. This opulent mirror remains in excellent condition, living on today as a true one-of-a-kind artifact.
Minor losses to lacquer finish.
