Arms of Leeke,
Circa 1770
The large Chinese Export porcelain armorial dish is decorated with the Coat of Arms of the Leeke family on an orange peel surface.
The wide border has a flower festoon design and the inner border of the well has an unusual band of shells in gold and red.
The center has the large coat of arms, “Argent, on a saltire engrailed sable nine amulets of the field”. Immediately above is the crest “A peacock’s tail erect proper supported by two eagles with wings erect”. According to Howard, the arms are of the Leeke (or Leake) family of Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
The dish is rectangular with canted corners.
Condition: Good, No restoration.
Dimensions: 16 1/8 inches wide x 13 inches deep x 1 1/4 inches.
