An exquisite and unusual set of four Chinese export black lacquer and gilt painted nesting tables, early to mid 19th century, China. The largest table top opens to serve as a games table.
This elegant set of four nesting tables crafted in black lacquer and intricately and densely painted in gilt. The table tops all with figural court scenes. The legs of lyre form and set with clawed feet. Delicate paintings of leaves and grasses decorate the legs.
The largest table functions as a games table. The top folds open. One side features a chess or checkers board. The squares of alternating black lacquer and gilt. The other side felted in green felt.
Overall a fine example of Chinese Export lacquer furniture.

Condition:FairWear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. With heavy, but attractive, wear to the gilt painting on some tables. The felt on the games table faded and worn. Some loss to the lacquer at the corners.
