An unusual pair of 19th century Chinese hand painted and richly glazed pottery seated Buddhist lions. They are each raised onto a stepped plinth with gilt character marks on the front face with bamboo and foliage around the sides and back on pale yellow dotted panels surrounded with boldly decorated boarders.
The lions are left and right handed forming a true pair each decorated in different colour ways. One with an open mouth expression and the other closed. Each is richly glazed in translucent colours highlighted with fine detailing and soft gilding.
They are both in good condition with light wear to some of the gilding.
