Although sometimes referred to as ‘paintings’ or ‘dream stones’, these are sections of Dali marble, quarried from the Cangshan mountain range in Western China and carefully chosen & hewn to expose their unique russet, black & grey striations that evoke ethereal, misty mountainous landscapes & clouds. Each showing hand painted calligraphy in red.
The Chinese refer to these striations as “moss entangled in melting snow”. The reverse of the frame showing showing traditional joinery methods featuring a chamfered panel secured with individual ‘keys’ slotted & nailed in place.
In very good overall condition, and priced competitively in comparison to similar examples in the marketplace.
