This charming cabinet is from the central province of Shaanxi, circa 1800 and is made from elm in a style typical of furniture from this region with ornate relief carvings on the drawers and carved spandrels at each side that taper down to the feet.
With two small doors that sit centrally within rounded frames, mounted on wooden dowels and a thick elm cabinet top extends over the rounded side frames. In addition two large drawers, which are beautifully decorated with a carved floral pattern and set with the original metal studs and there are also two smaller drawers at either side. The spandrels are also decorated with stylised dragons in light relief carving.
The original dark lacquer has now particularly worn around the feet and lower apron adding character and charm to this delightful piece.
