A very rare and desirable piece of military used campaign furniture, this was made during the English occupation of China, the Chinese were copying our furniture so they could capture sales from retuning dignitaries and military servicemen, the only pieces they had to hand were campaign, as such they added their own special touch with the inlaid brass. This piece is as fine as they come
Most of these campaign chests are simply drawers which were for officers of medium standing, the higher ranking officials had secratcaire sections as this does, there is a small sliding drawer section inside this single drawer, a writing slope which is height adjustable, this truly is a very fine piece of furniture and would have been commissioned for a very important military leader.
This piece has been deep cleaned, hand condition waxed and hand polished from top to bottom, there will be age and use related patina marks all over as you would hope to find with genuine campaign used pieces
