A fine three-piece diminutive black lacquer secretary desk with extensive chinoiserie or japanned decoration, including a base table, brass-handled lap desk, and two door cabinet with compartmentalized interior. The cabinet has a carved crest with central oval patera, all foliate decorated, surmounting two paneled doors with oval central paterae with painted landscape scenes, opening to multiple drawers and a central mirrored prospect door. A locked side drawer is present (presently with no key). The writing lap desk has two protective decorated doors opening to a felt writing surface with key border, which opens to a hidden storage compartment below. Brass handles appear on the sides for easy mobility. The base table is supported by four turned legs. The piece is English in origin, dating to the 19th century, in very good overall condition, with veneer shrinkage cracks, losses, repairs, other imperfections and wear commensurate with age and use.
