A rare and precious tree from the French countryside: the cormier. This majestic wild fruit tree, which produces small fruits, corms, has gradually fallen into oblivion to the point of extinction.
This tree grows very slowly and lives for a very long time: its wood is, therefore, one of the hardest and densest, heavier than oak… It was used to make the wheels of the mills.
The top of the table is made of cormier, the legs are made of ash with veins which are reminiscent of the olive tree, hence its name ‘olive ash’.
And so that future generations will also rediscover this marvel at L’ Atelier Villard: for each cormier that is cut down, a small cormier is planted.
In Japan, the term ‘itadakimasu’ or いただきますs’ is used when eating. This polite formula has no equivalent in French. Indeed, it is not addressed to the one who is going to eat it, but to the one who has prepared the meal or, in a more abstract way, to nature itself. Literally, itadakimasu would rather mean ‘thank you for this meal’, but with a more universal, almost spiritual dimension.
